LEEP is a safe short in-office procedure that is used to remove a thin layer of suspicious cells from the cervix. After Pap Smear Testing and colposcopy confirm abnormal cervical cells, LEEP uses an electrically charged loop to remove tissue for further testing. In some cases, LEEP may be a treatment as well. Cryosurgery is an in-office treatment for abnormal cervical cells, as indicated by an abnormal Pap Smear Test and colposcopy. Cryosurgery involves using very cold temperatures to freeze and destroy abnormal cells. Cryosurgery is not a treatment for cervical cancer, but rather a treatment for cervicitis or precancerous cervical cells (dysplasia).

Diagnostic biopsies are used to obtain tissue samples to examine cells for cancer. Biopsies are the only way to confidentially diagnose cervical, vaginal, vulvar, or endometrial cancer. Most diagnostic biopsies can be done as simple in office procedures.
